Frequently asked questions
What is an elective ultrasound?
An elective ultrasound does not require an order from a healthcare provider. It is for entertainment purposes only. This type of ultrasound allows expectant parents and families to bond with their baby and see their precious little one in 3D/4D before their arrival.
Is ultrasound safe for the expecting mother and the baby?
Ultrasound is considered very safe for both mother and baby during pregnancy. It uses sound waves, not ionizing radiation, and has no known harmful, long-term effects on fetal development or growth.
What is the difference between 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound?
2D Ultrasound is a flat, black-and-white slice showing internal structures and skeletal outlines. Standard for monitoring, measuring growth, checking organs.
3D Ultrasound is a static, three-dimensional picture, like a photograph, revealing facial features, hands, and feet. Better for visualizing external anatomy, and parent bonding. It is more detailed and realistic than 2D, aiding in emotional connection.
4D Ultrasound is alive, moving video of the 3D image, showing actions like yawning, stretching, or waving and offers the most interactive bonding experience by showing the baby's real-time movements and behaviors. The dynamic, "movie-like" footage for parents to see their baby in action.
What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?
Start drinking plenty of water, perhaps doubling your normal amount, a few days to a week before the appointment.
Eat a light meal or snack 45 minutes to an hour before the session.
Have a small, sugary snack or juice (like apple or orange juice) 10–15 minutes before the appointment to wake the baby up.
Steer clear of caffeine, as it acts as a diuretic, potentially reducing fluid and impacting image quality.
Wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to your belly, such as leggings or a loose dress.
When is the best time to have a 3D/ 4D ultrasound?
It is never too early or too late to see your precious baby—our sessions are available during any trimester throughout your pregnancy. However, if you want to see more of your baby’s features, the best time to book a 3D/4D session is between 28–32 weeks, when your baby is more developed, has detailed features, and still has enough room to move. The decision is entirely up to you—many parents choose to schedule one 3D/4D session early in the pregnancy (between 14–26 weeks) and another later (between 27–34 weeks) to capture both stages of development.
How many guests are allowed to join the bonding time?
Alongside the mom-to-be, up to five loved ones are welcome to share in this special moment.
Is there a difference in pricing if there are multiple babies (i.e. twins, triplets, etc.)?
For moms expecting multiples, additional charges may apply, as extra time is needed to ensure each baby is carefully scanned.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance as our services are considered non-medical, keepsake, and entertainment procedures rather than diagnostic necessities. The patients are required to pay out-of-pocket.
Do I need to sign any forms for my appointment?
Yes. By booking an appointment with Premier View Imaging, you acknowledge and agree to our Release and Waiver of Liability and Terms & Conditions. These documents explain the nature of our elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound services and are required prior to receiving services.
Will there be a deposit fee associated with online booking?
